The Heart of Service: Celebrating Laura & Rick Smith
At City Mission, our volunteers are the heartbeat of everything we do. They bring hope, strength, and transformation—not only through their time and skills but through their unwavering compassion. This month, we are thrilled to honor Laura and Rick Smith, a dynamic duo whose dedication to serving others has made a lasting impact on our mission and community.
Laura’s Impact: Nourishing the Body & Soul
Each week, Laura Smith steps into our Food Services kitchen, rolling up her sleeves to prepare meals that nourish both the body and soul. From chopping vegetables to plating meals with care, Laura ensures that every guest receives a warm, nutritious meal and a welcoming smile.
Her dedication goes beyond food prep—she understands that a meal is more than just sustenance; it’s a message of care, dignity, and hope. Thanks to volunteers like Laura, our guests know they are not alone in their journey.
Rick’s Impact: Building More Than Just Structures
While Laura works tirelessly in the kitchen, Rick Smith is often found with tools in hand, using his skills to repair, build, and restore essential spaces within City Mission. Whether it’s fixing broken equipment, tackling construction projects, or handling handyman tasks, Rick ensures that our facilities remain a safe, welcoming environment for those in need.
Beyond his hands-on work at City Mission, Rick is also deeply committed to prison ministry. Through his outreach, incarcerated individuals have found a unique way to give back by creating beautiful artwork, Christmas cards, and paintings for City Mission. These pieces serve as a reminder of hope, redemption, and second chances—values that align perfectly with our mission.
A Legacy of Service & Hope
Laura and Rick embody what it means to serve with love and purpose. Their work may look different—one in the kitchen, the other in construction—but their mission is the same: to offer hope, dignity, and transformation to those who need it most.
Their dedication has:
💛 Fed countless individuals, ensuring that no one goes hungry
💛 Improved and maintained our facilities, creating a safe space for healing
💛 Extended hope into the prison community, giving a voice to those seeking redemption
